Privacy notice

What Carnet collects, why, and what you can ask for.

Carnet collects as little personal information as possible. This notice explains what we collect, why, and how to reach us about it.

Who we are

Carnet is an independent education brand operated by Jean-Michael Boivin in Edmonton, Alberta. For privacy questions, write to hello@carnetmoney.ca. Sender details: Carnet · Jean-Michael Boivin · Edmonton, Alberta (full mailing address published at launch) · hello@carnetmoney.ca. We handle personal information in line with Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and, where it applies, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

What we collect

  • Email sign-up. If you subscribe, we collect your email address, optional first name, the date and the consent you gave. We use it only to send Carnet's weekly email. Consent is opt-in: the box is never pre-ticked. Each email identifies the sender, includes a mailing address and contact email, and has a one-click unsubscribe link, as Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) requires. Unsubscribe requests take effect immediately, and in any case within 10 business days.
  • Messages you send us. If you email us, we keep the message to reply and for our records.
  • Basic server logs. Our web host may record standard technical data (such as IP address, browser type and pages requested) to operate and secure the site.

This site does not currently use advertising or analytics cookies. If that changes, this notice will be updated before it does.

Service providers

Email subscriptions will be managed by a third-party email service (Carnet plans to use Kit, formerly ConvertKit), and the site is served by a static web host. These providers process information on our behalf and may store it outside Canada, where it may be subject to the laws of that country. We choose providers that protect data with reasonable safeguards.

Affiliate links and other sites

When you click an affiliate or referral link, you leave Carnet. The company you visit, and the affiliate network that tracks the referral (such as Rakuten or impact.com), may set cookies or collect information under their own privacy policies. Carnet receives referral reports (for example, that a sign-up or sale occurred) but not your payment or account details.

Your choices and rights

  • Unsubscribe from email at any time using the link in any message.
  • Ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent and have it deleted, by writing to us.
  • If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Retention and security

We keep subscriber information while you remain subscribed and for a reasonable period after you unsubscribe to honour that choice. We do not sell personal information.

Children

Carnet is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
